Roger Waters - The Wall
I missed Roger Waters when he came to DC on 10/10/10 so as soon as I realized that dreadful mistake, I went online and purchased my ticket for the 11/11/10 show in Philly. All I can say is HOLY CRAP I AM SO GLAD THAT I DID!!! The concert was of epic proportions (and I hate using the word epic but it's so appropriate) - I'd see it again and again if I could afford to. Here is a photo essay of my experience (taking pics with a crappy point-n-shoot at a concert is a challenge so bear with me).
Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia:
If you don't eat a cheesesteak when you're visiting Philly (even if it turns out to be sub-par like mine was), check your pulse:
Pre-concert stage (I had an awesome seat but I think I actually sat too close!):
Token self-portrait:
The stage erupted with pyrotechnics as In the Flesh opened the show:
Taken right as a plane flew over the audience and crashed into The Wall:
Roger Waters has no shame with his liberal political views, specifically regarding war (and for that, I love him even more). Images of deceased civilians and soldiers were displayed throughout the night.
When he performed Vera & Bring the Boys Back Home there was video of young children being reunited with their parents who had been deployed. I'll admit it - I got choked up.
Hey! Teacher! Leave us kids alone!
Check out the va-jayjay on this chick:
The Wall is complete!
During intermission, more images of fan-submitted photos of the fallen graced The Wall:
When Comfortably Numb came on, I almost lost my mind. This was my favorite song of the evening. During the final guitar solo, The Wall exploded with color:
The marching hammers were moving way too fast for a good pic:
Finally, The Wall came tumbling down:
So did a shitload of red paper confetti (you know I saved a few pieces):
The band:
Roger Waters is a touring machine! It is rumored that David Gilmour will make a guest appearance at one of the shows. I'm thinking he will probably perform with Roger when the tour reaches the UK. What I wouldn't pay to see THAT show.
Comfortably numb,
Susan

"Epic" seems like the perfect word to describe that show. From the pics, it definitely seems like quite the visual spectacle, in a good way.
November 12, 2010 2:36 PMyay!! Great review and great pics. We're going Nov 21. in Dallas. Can't wait! BTW, your eyes are epic, as in beautiful.

November 18, 2010 4:40 PMThank you so much for posting these photos. I just saw the Wall last night in Denver and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I had goosebumps the entire show. More than 24 hours later I still get the chills as I relive the show and look at your photos. If the best concert I've ever seen on a scale of 1-10 was a 10, The Wall was a 25!
