Not in the Budget (NITB)

So I've decided to take part in a somewhat drastic experiment. Project NITB is in full effect. Here are some preliminary rules:

  1. No luxury shopping for one year (clothes, shoes, accessories, etc). My running shoes are the exception since they go "bad" after ~400 miles.
  2. I can only eat out once a month.
  3. I can buy ONE bottle of wine/month. This will be a difficult rule since I pretty much bleed cabernet sauvignon.
  4. No more salon pedicures; I'll do them myself (I'm getting tired of the nail technicians asking about my black toenails anyway).
  5. Buy everything with cash and track every nickel and dime that I spend no matter how trivial (e.g., $1.00 to the homeless guy on Great Seneca Highway).
More rules will be rolling in as I really get an idea of what my individual budgets will be for gas, car maintenance, groceries, personal care, entertainment, etc. I'm not giving up everything... just cutting back a substantial amount.

Will I miss out on a lot of fun stuff with my friends? Most likely.

Will I get frustrated and feel resentful of my stupid project at least once a week? Most def.

But will I save thousands of dollars? Hell to the MF YEAH.

I want my bank account to resemble my closet: filled with a lot of great stuff I don't use. Get it? I sure hope I can...

Wish me luck as I feed the pig,
Susan

I feel as though I should participate in this project with you but there is no way I would make it. I'm in dire need of saving some money!

Maybe I shall participate with slightly different rules

i thought it would be hard...i thought i'd die having to tell my friends no, but that lasted maybe two weeks and then i got a kick out of the money piling up in my bank account.

i even started writing pauper posts...where i'd tell folks what i would buy if i could lol. cathartic i say!

I'm in debt and I need to seriously sit down and figure out a budget that I can legitimately stick to in order to pay off said debt! Ah!
